Music Monday : Cat Power

We are currently in Tahoe taking a pause and soaking in the great outdoors. I came across a new music gem and wanted to bring you a little Music Monday on a Wednesday! Cat Power aka Chan Marshall dropped her album 'Sun' yesterday and I am pumped. I'm a fan of her music and can't wait to listen to it all. I may pop up on Instagram and Pinterest (@blackeiffel) more than here for the next few days. Hope you are having a nice week.

The List -- by guest Erin Jang

20 things I am loving at the moment.*

1. Shirts from Print Liberation. Check out their store. The Palin shirt is terribly funny.
2. Fleet Foxes. They have beards, they are from Seattle, and they can sing.
3. If someone has an extra $495, please buy me this vintage Royal turquoise typewriter
4. Die-cut stencil card from Mary & Matt.
5. My nephew's drawings. He's in "The Blue Period".
6. I'm not a big handbag girl. But I love some of the purses and wallets at Hobo
7. Traveling with my husband. This is Patagonia. You must go here at least once before you die.
8. This Blue Note record cover. Who says exclamation points should be used sparingly?
9. Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa. I love her recipes. I love her. She is the only person on the Food Network I don't find annoying.
10. My favorite Charlie Chaplin film.
11. Cat Power live.
12. This greeting card.
13. Be careful not to overdose on visual inspiration at this site.
14. My friend's photos of the NY subway.
15. The Modern List.
16. This book.
17. Mural at Coney Island.
18. Steve Powers
19. This album. They recorded at Jobim's house. If you listen closely, you can hear the birds chirping outside the window during some of the songs.
20. City Bakery's pretzel croissant.

*This is not a comprehensive list.

Favorite jams of 2008

Inspired by memories of listening to year-end countdowns on the radio, I've put together a little post highlighting my favorite sounds of 2008. Be sure to share your favorites too.

Here are my top 10 favorite sounds of the year.

Lykke Li - Youth Novels: I love her sound, hip style, and how she dances.

Bon Iver : When I first downloaded "For Emma, Forever Ago" I listened to it like five times in a row. See previous post here. His soothing voice and guitar strums are super comforting.

Coldplay: Viva La Vida is their best album yet, and according to my high play count numbers they got added to this list.

Joshua Radin - Simple Times a brilliant songwriter and overall pleasant album.

Cat Power - Jukebox my go-to chill music, she has definitely got rhythm and soul.

Vampire Weekend: listening to this album makes me happy, great music to lift your spirits.

Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree : This video that I posted here let alone makes me put their album on my favorite list. Love it. Go take a peek, it'll make you smile.

Once: Music from the Motion Picture - This album is mesmerizing and brilliant.

Death Cab for Cutie: Narrow Stairs - My brother introduced to me this hip Seattle group over ten years ago and it has been fascinating to see how they have evolved. This is another great album to add to their collection.

Ingrid Michaelson- Be OK - I like her simplicity and genuinely crafted songs.

Jukebox

Yay! This album comes out today! I heart Cat Power.

Meow... meow

Cat Power aka Chan Marshall is the greatest, like her latest album entitled that. She has a sultry, unique sexy voice and is definitely a quintessential rock star! She has numerous albums out on the scene, and speaking of cover songs from the last post, the album "You are Free" has some good ones on it.
